The past weekend reminded me what beautiful weather was like. Warm air, bright sunshine and a light breeze was great to experience again. I was again loving the Northern California lifestyle. Then I saw what a local water district was asking for and about blew a gasket!
It’s true! A local water agency is asking for a 26% increase in water rates for just this year and the total rate increase requested is over 40% over the next 5 years! Let that sink in… 40% in 5 years. Their reason is government at its best!!!
Since Governor Brown enacted mandatory water restrictions it stands to reason that water district are selling less water. Since water is like gasoline and sold by quantity used water districts are taking in less money (conservation here actually costs you money) and that decrease in money collected is being made up by charging you more! In effect, water ratepayers are being penalized for doing what was both mandated and expected during a drought when they conserved! In fact, they conserved at a rate higher than was expected so now you have to pay the price!
The only solution we can think of is to quit showering and stop watering your lawn! Wait, many of us tried the lawn idea and the idea of no more showers is not all that pleasant so we have a better idea.
