Like everything in the modern world, the devil is in the details. Programs like Ygrene, PACE and HERO are no different and each of these require some education and consideration. The reality is that at the end of the day there is no such thing as a free lunch.
As a State and a Nation we have embraced Green Energy and Renewable Energy as the wave of the future. When I look at the world I want to leave for my children I agree that we need to do whatever is reasonable to employ these new technologies. There are however some people and companies that will abuse technology and take advantage of people and these programs are no different.
I recently saw an elderly couple from Southern California interviewed who felt they were taken advantage of by going solar. They didn’t understand how the HERO program works and sadly the contractor appeared to avoid explaining the program in the level of detail that would allow the customer to make the best decision for themselves. It’s also worth noting that the contractor they were working with was at that time under investigation by the license board and had the couple checked with cslb.ca.gov and entered the license number they would have found that out. By the way our license number is #827711 and I invite you to check us out.
When we structure anything that interfaces with any of these programs we make it very clear what it will actually cost you and how to pay for it. In almost every case you save more than the cost and that’s called a win-win-win. You save money, we employ smart people and together we leave a better planet for our kids.
